Born: 12 June 1983, Johannesburg
Weight: 95kg
Height 1.80m
Province: Rugby Club Toulon (from 2013-2018)
Western Province (2010-2013),
Blue Bulls (2005-2009) and Previously Golden Lions (2002-2004)
In his provincial and club career, Bryan played a crucial role in securing titles for the Blue Bulls, Western Province and Toulon. He returned to South African Sevens team, The Blitzboks, to aid them in their campaign in the run up to the 2016 Rio Olympics. His last test appearance for the Springboks came in November 2016 where he scored his 67th international try.
Named after Bryan Robson and Gary Bailey by his Man United loving parents, Bryan grew up with dreams of becoming a footballer. The Springboks victorious 1995 Rugby World Cup campaign changed all of that, inspiring young Bryan to pick up a rugby ball.
He began his professional career signing for the Golden Lions and burst onto the international scene against England in 2004, aged 21, scoring a try on his debut with his first touch of the ball. Since then he has been a pivotal player in the Springbok set-up and has written himself into the rugby history book as one of the best wings South Africa has ever seen.
Bryan cemented his place among the sport’s elite with a series of outstanding displays during South Africa’s 2007 Rugby World Cup triumph, his eight tries equaling the record set by All Black player Jonah Lomu in 1999. Later that same year he was named the IRB Player of the Year.
In his provincial and club career, Bryan has played a crucial role in securing titles for the Blue Bulls, Western Province and his current club Toulon. Most recently he returned to South African Sevens team, The Blitzbokke, to aid them in their campaign in the run up to the 2016 Rio Olympics, and represented the Springboks in the 2016 Rugby Championship.
In his 13 years at international level Bryan has been a prolific try scorer, with more tries than any other Springbok in history, and the second most international try-scorer of all time.
